Window sign painting, as a career is probably one of the best jobs someone could wish for. If you are disciplined enough to learn the trade, the rewards are endless. The sign industry has gone through a lot of changes over the years and has been taken over by technology. Back in the day, Sign writers, as they were called, would do all their work with quills and oil based paint. Now days, the computer can create the logo, font, size, color and texture of the sign. The personal touch of the individual artist brushing the paint onto the surface and all his or her personality coming through in every stroke of the quill is a dying trade. Their are a handful of old school painters still around, doing some of the best signs, window signs, banners, murals and A-frame signs your eyes have been blessed to see. In this age of ” Hurry up, I need it now!” world we live in, it is easy to spot a quality sign made by hand, not spit out by some pimpled face kid working in a ” Sign Shop” down on the corner.
We are still around, quietly doing our signs and enjoying every moment of it. It is almost peaceful, working with a brush and a smooth surface to paint. Window signs are the most fun to paint. You get to see the expression of the people watching from the other side of the glass. Some people are awestruck and some are oblivious to what you are doing. The best part is seeing the finshed window sign and watching others who are walking bye, stop and admire what you have created. A life working in signs has been very pleasing. Signs Of Life, window painting, sign painting, signs and more.
I don’t know what I will do when the day comes that I can’t physically paint a sign anymore. It makes me sad to think that part of my life, that, brings me so much joy will one day have to come to an end. Hopefully, my Son will or Daughter will pick up one of my old brushes and carry on one of the world’s oldest trades. I do find myself a blessed man, who has been able to do what he loves for more than 20 years and at the same time be able to provide for his family. May never get rich doing window painting, but, I can truly say that the sign business has put me in some amazing places and met some incredible people. I hope that sign painting will be a part of my life for another 20 years. Thank you, to all that have ever hired me to do a window sign of any kind, your business has been much appreciated. Thank you, God, for all the blessings and the hardships in my life.
